GC 2: CONTROL OF INTERNATIONAL WORKPLACE HAZADS.

“Hazard is anything that had the potential to cause harm”. This paper involves in the concept of hazard and its types in various field. Hazards may be of electricity, chemical, Mining, Ergonic, Physical, Psychological etc. and its tackling methods to overcome them which contains 8 major elements which are as follows,

1. WORKPLACE HAZARDS AND RISK CONTROL.

This element indulges in general foci about common health, welfare and work environment which are required in the workplace and explains the risk factors and appropriate controls for violence at work. The preventing materials from falling through safe stacking and storage. Violence & misuse of substances in the work place, Types of substances misused at work, ex: – alcohol, legal and illegal drugs and the risk associated & measures to control it. The impact on workplaces from hazards associated with temporary works such as maintenance, renovation, excavations, etc.

2. TRANSPORT HAZARD AND RISK CONTROL.

This topic teaches about types of vehicles used inside the premises and the condition of the vehicle should be known if any risk occurs three things should be considered, the vehicle, the driver, workplace how to evaluate the risk and its further actions are explained.

3. MUSCULOSKELETAL HAZARDS AND RISK CONTROL.

Manual handling of loads may cause cumulative disorders ex. low back pain it may also cause acute trauma. Work related low back pain, injury are most common musculoskeletal disease caused by manual handling. Prevention for this may be providing lift, some sort of automation method in handling task in safe way etc.

4. WORK EQUIPMENT HAZARD AND RISK CONTROL.

Working with machines may be dangerous since moving machines may cause injuries like hit, cut, crushed between parts, etc. to prevent this best material may be used, distracting people who are using machines should be avoided. These things are covered in work equipment hazard and risk control.

5. ELECTRICAL SAFETY.

Electrical hazards may be of electric shock, blasts, fault current, improper grounding, wet conditions, poorly maintained pannels etc. to avoid these kinds of hazards proper insulating materials like gloves, suites may be used. Regular inspection, testing must be followed.

6. FIRE SAFETY.

The hazards related to fire is of storage and use of flammable material, heating appliances, work process involving in heat are some of the hazards by which one can escape is fire alarm and detection system, fire extinguishers, evacuation procedures, escape routes these were covered under fire safety element.

7. CHEMICAL AND BIOLOGICAL HAZARDS AND RISK CONTROL.

Biological hazards like mold, insects/pests bites etc. may cause allergic symptoms or serious conditions. Chemical hazards like cleaning products, paints, acids and gas like acetylene, helium, propane etc. these may resulting in lung damage, kidney damage etc. these were explained under chemical and biological hazards.

8. PHYSICAL, PHYSICOLOGICAL HAZARDS AND RISK CONTROL.

Physical hazards like noise, vibration, radiation temperature may cause pain, ears feel stuffed up, etc. Physicological hazards like guilt, shy, shame, fear etc. in order to avoid this mutual relationship should be formed.
